Mentoring

Missionaries can best serve by facilitating the ministry of others rather than trying to do it themselves. So it has been said anyway. Quite frankly, given the spiritual condition of the Czech Republic, we feel like this is the most strategic use of our time. With less than one-fifth of one percent (.17%) of the Czech population being evangelical believers, one of the greatest contributions we can make is facilitating the ministry of those involved in church multiplication. That means we want to invest heavily in people’s lives. Recognizing the importance of investing well in people, projekt Zet is involved in the following facets of mentoring:

Direct Mentoring

Our team regularly visits Czech pastors in their homes and places of ministry. Nothing beats time spent face-to-face, especially on the other person’s turf, interacting on issues of life and ministry. In our visits we hope to:

• Provide encouragement to men who are slugging it out in ministry, often alone and frequently overloaded with responsibilities.
• Actively engage in ministry activities with those we mentor. The point is to not only talk about ministry, but to do ministry together, whether it be an evangelistic event or something to build up the body of Christ.
• Raise important issues related to ministry and spiritual health and then serve as a sounding board to flesh out important ideas in our lives and ministries.

Peer Mentoring

This involves facilitating mentoring meetings with a group of pastors and/or church planters for the following purpose: getting people to begin learning from one another. Armed with a topic related to spiritual formation or ministry skills, we facilitate a process of mutual learning whereby Czech church leaders are sharing with one another and learning from one another. These meetings not only result in mutual learning, but they help to build relational bridges among leaders in a given area, often across denominational lines.

Mentoring Resources

Not only do we want to be involved in mentoring, we are developing mentoring resources that can be used by Czech pastors and church planters in their own settings. The idea is to be providing tools for people to use in their own ministry settings.
